The two things I love most about metal are its permanence through time, and its versatility as a medium. My jewelry pairs traditional metal smithing techniques with a contemporary design aesthetic. I find inspiration in the natural world around me, creatures, human history and myth. Sterling silver, gold, natural stones, and occasional found objects are my materials. Soldering, forming, lost wax casting, piercing, stone-setting, and roll-printing are some of the many techniques used in my work. Each piece is made entirely by hand by me in the studio.
I became a full-time metalsmith jeweler in 2008 after studying metal smithing at Syracuse University. My business is a one-woman show. I do all the jewelry design, production, photography, and everything else myself. Before become a metalsmith I spent several years doing social work and Adult Protective Services in Virginia working to support vulnerable elderly and/ or disabled adults.
My creative influences are broad. I was born in the Middle East to American parents and have lived in Iran, Hungary, Virginia, Arizona, and Upstate New York, where I currently reside. I’ve also traveled a lot and consider myself blessed to have the influences of so many cultures to draw from in my work. I especially loved my time in the Southwest and multiple trips to Mexico, which I adore!
My design draws from all of these experiences as well as my love for the natural world. In my spare time you can find me hiking, biking, skiing, or best of all, snorkeling! I love to study insects, plants, and landscapes. I strive to honor our Earth in my designs and business practices by using recycled metals and ethically sourced stones from lapidary artists who I know and trust.
