My current work centers on wheel-thrown functional vessels that move fluidly between the utilitarian and the sculptural. Rooted in classical and modern sensibilities, each piece is designed with intention—created for ease of use, and the pleasure of daily interaction. From ergonomic mug forms and olive-oil pourers to utensil holders and bowls. The aim for these objects to become the ‘go to’ ceramic object in their everyday life, valued as much for their functionality as for their style. I often work primarily using a monochromatic palette, exploring warm and cool tones and layering glazes to create rich, nuanced and juicy surfaces.
Parallel to this functional practice, my current work investigates nature and tradition. Pierced work, yet functional, become sculptural vessels that create a feeling of lightness and transparency with a simple elegance. My recent series of wheel-thrown covered jars create a balance between sculpture and function, many of them topped with amorphously textured bird finials. These small hand-formed birds serve as a focal point and an element that reminds us of the fleeting beauty and the mystery of nature caught in a moment in time, while the timeless classic shape of the vessel counters that and creates a feeling of stability and assuredness.
Across all of my work, I strive to create pieces that invite touch, create connection, and honor the moments that shape our everyday lives.
