I am Alison Altafi, a mixed media fiber artist based in Syracuse, New York.
My journey into weaving began in my early twenties, initially focusing on wall hangings and traditional tapestries. Over time, I have embraced both weaving within frames and round weaving.
I am drawn to it’s cyclical nature, which I find deeply cathartic and meditative. In my work,
I incorporate a variety of materials, including hand-spun and dyed yarns, repurposed fabrics, and vintage textiles and lace. My weavings transport viewers to magical, otherworldly realms—spaces where I too can escape. Inspired by fairytales, nature, and the cosmos, I craft intricate woven worlds that invite tactile exploration and wonder.
Through my art, I hope to create a sense of comfort and connection, encouraging viewers to get
comfortably lost in the textures and woven landscapes.
