Efforts relating to healthy living and clean eating led Nancy Lee to discover the benefits of natural handcrafted soap and to create Balsam Rose Soap Company. Nancy, together with her husband Bob, create their own unique, skin care products. Since our skin absorbs 60% of any topical ingredient that is used, a safer, more natural, and ecological product was needed. Nancy makes high quality formulations that use the power of plants to nourish your skin every day. Only high quality, the least processed, organic when possible, and natural ingredients are used to create Balsam Rose skin care products that are not only good for your skin but good for the environment.
Nancy uses many herbs to benefit your skin. Here in Central New York, there a wide assortment of healing herbs, many of them are growing right in your own backyard. Chamomile, calendula, hops, plantain, self-heal, St. John’s Wort, and dandelion are soothing and anti-inflammatory. After gathering and drying local and organic herbs, they are infused into oils. The healing properties of the herbs are then released. After straining, the infused oils are used to make our natural skin balm, soap, and repellent. Nancy also uses herbs for color, exfoliation, and appearance. The flowers, leaves, and roots produce lovely, muted shades of purple, red, gold, and green. Nancy will only consider only using ingredients that are sustainably harvested after carefully researching each ingredient. All products are plant-based and contain no artificial scents or colors.
Nancy enjoys learning and sharing resources with businesses, farms, and organizations that are also concerned about our health, the environment and building local economies. After working as a college and middle school teacher in New Jersey and relocating to Central New York, Nancy was thrilled to become a part of Cazenovia Artisans co-op. Working with the dedicated and very talented artisans in the co-op has been a great inspirational experience. Cazenovia Artisans all work together in the gallery, this has enabled Nancy to meet and learn so much from so many people from Cazenovia, Central New York, around the country, and all around the world.
