Nancy and Bob Lee began Balsam Rose Soap Company almost five years ago. Nancy is a retired Family and Consumer Science educator with years of college and middle school teaching experience. Bob has had a long and successful career as a technologist and administrator in the diagnostic health care field. Efforts relating to healthy living and clean eating led us to discover the benefits of natural handcrafted soap. We have developed our own formulas based on what we have learned.
All Balsam Rose Soap Co. products are plant-based and contain no artificial scents or colors. Balsam Rose formulas are research-based and use high quality ingredients that are natural, sustainable, and good for your skin. We always look to purchase NY state local, organic, and fairly traded botanicals, and other natural ingredients. We enjoy learning about and sharing resources with businesses, farms, and organizations that are also concerned about our health, the environment and building local economies. We use many local products in our soap making and are adding more each day. Local ingredients we use include craft brews, honey, hops, plants and herbs of all kinds, maple syrup, and pumpkin.
Nancy has a BS in Home Economics from Douglass College, Rutgers, and her Masters in Consumer Management from Montclair State University. Nancy continued her studies to add Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement to her teaching certificate. Since retired and moving to CNY, Nancy is a member of Auraca Herbarists based at Cornell Botanic Gardens and is studying “The Science and Art of Herbalism” through Rosemary Gladstar’s online course.
